Oryn Redford
Oryn is a children’s book illustrator, author and painter from Scotland. In 2020, she graduated with a BA in Animation from Duncan of Jordanstone before moving in 2025 to study the Children’s Book Illustration MA at Cambridge School of Art
Her process is focused on play, with an interest in lighting and mood. A combination of emotional content and observational drawing grounds her work and enables people to connect with it. Oryn predominantly works in acrylic gouache, giving her work a vibrancy. She expresses herself with big brushes through loose and fast brush strokes, adding texture and life to her illustrations. She is heavily inspired by childhood memories and feelings, as well as the Scottish Highlands in which she grew up. Her work often takes on themes of being alone, friendship and folklore. Oryn’s goal is for her art to evoke a feeling of cosiness and comfort as well as a sense of wonder.
When she is not making art she enjoys a cup of tea, and adventures in the hills.
