Emma Carlisle

Emma is an artist, illustrator and picture book maker based in Devon, UK.

After graduating from the MA Children's Book Illustration course at Cambridge School of Art in 2014, she lectured for seven years at Plymouth University, where she focused her teaching on children's books and storytelling.

Emma was Highly Commended for the Macmillan Book Prize and was nominated for several awards, including the Kate Greenaway and the Klaus Flugge Prize.

In 2022, Emma returned to picture books with a new, developed visual language, and her book What Do You See When You Look At A Tree? won the Award of Excellence – Literature for Children from the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries and was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize. Her next book, Time Runs Like a River, will be published in June 2024.

Nature plays an important role in Emma's work, and she's interested in developing fiction and nonfiction projects.
